How to relocate a virtual disk

1. power off the vm

2. create a clone of the virtual disk and set the output location as the desired new location

example for a VMDK formatted virtual disk

vboxmanage clonehd current-vdisk-path new-vdisk-path --format VMDK

the cloned disk will have a different UUID

3. Edit the vm settings and change the path of the virtual disk to the cloned disk
