A depot server is a collection of one or more package repositories.  The depot server is typically run as a service onthe system by pkg.depotd.  The pkg.depotd service is managed by the service management facility (SMF), under the service identifier svc:/application/pkg/server.

 It enables clients to access the local repository via HTTP service
